Why?
If I have a tight left hip I cant do full lotus.
If I cant do full lotus then how can I possibly have the brass neck to enrol on yoga teacher training. The shame!
Gravity to the rescue. I call this the hip hang.
Half lotus on the left side and hang there (bandhas on) for as long as you like. The longer the better. Come up nice and slow and lift your foot out.
Depending on the severity of your situation you may need to do this from anything from days to months to years. Every body responds differently.
I've been doing it on and off for about two months and Joy! This week I got into full lotus (I'm not saying it was comfortable mind).
Does this mean I can allow myself to sign up for teacher training or should I wait until I've mastered this?...
